Hollywood California! A magical sparkling place filled with all the beautiful people. The land of stars and celebrities where the magic happens on the big screen, the little screen, stage and more. Bright lights, lavish parties, a boulevard filled with dreams for the taking and endless fun for all—right?
What if I told you that Hollywood has a dark underbelly? That it is a completely different place to those that grow up there? Living under the Hollywood sign might sound amazing to an outsider, but when you read the stories of someone who actually lived it, you walk away with a totally different perspective.
Tara Botel Doherty was someone who grew up that way. And in an homage to her upbringing, wrote the book Growing Up Hollywood. It is a collection of short stories, each a snap shotinto the life of two young girls—fictionalized versions of Tara and her sister—who see Hollywood Land in a totally different light.
Tara Botel Doherty and her sister were raised by their grandmother and mother just blocks away from Hollywood Boulevard. Tara holds an MPW from USC. Now residing in the Santa Clarita Valley with her husband and daughter, she writes regularly about her adventures in Hollywood. Bread for the Table was her first novel.
