We’re talking about Books That Make You Cope with Stress and Trauma Through Graphic Novels, Especially for Young Adults.
Comics and graphics novels aren’t just fun, frivolous distractions, full of superheroes and the supernatural. Through their characters, they can speak deeper to many teens and young adults, and, very often, can be sources of healing.
Such is the premise of Superhero Therapy, developed by Chernobyl survivor Janina Scarlet, PhD, who immigrated to the United States at age 12. A clinical psychologist, she is the author of “Dark Agents Book One: Violet and the Trial of Trauma,” and was inspired by the X-Men to create Superhero Therapy to help patients with anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
The United Nations Association awarded her efforts with the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award. Her work has been featured on BBC, NPR, Yahoo, Sunday Times, CNN, CW, Huffington Post, ABC, The New York Times, BuzzFeed, Forbes, the Nerdist and many others. Presently, she works at the Center for Stress and Anxiety Management in San Diego.
